GREENSBORO - Alvin E. Howard has been named director of North Carolina A&T State University's physical plant department. He will provide leadership to a diverse team of engineers and professionals within the physical plant.

Howard has over 20 years of engineering experience in the private sector.
Prior to coming to A&T, he served as facilities project manager and process/equipment design and fabrication project manager for ABCO Automation.

During his career, he has managed professional engineers and subcontractors as well as budgets totaling more than $6 million. He has broad experience in project management, maintenance, and construction that includes: engineering and design of machines and buildings; development of project and maintenance plans; generation and management of both new equipment and construction contracts; estimates and budget development for new structures, building repairs and new equipment purchases; schedule development and implementation; and, has also written engineering policy and procedures.

Howard received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Tuskegee Institute. He also has associate degrees in electrical and electronic technology,
and training in computer software applications, project management, maintenance shop operations and construction management/estimating. He is also a licensed general contractor.

Clarence Waddell has been promoted to assistant warehouse manager
in the physical plant department. He has served the University for 17
years in several positions in the department.
