A&T ALUMNI RECEIVE AWARDS

 
 
SEPTA'S GENERAL MANAGER TO KEYNOTE A&T'S CAREER BANQUET


GREENSBORO, NC -  Three North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University graduates received awards at the university's Annual Alumni Awards Banquet The award recipients are Waddell "Wally" Pearson, The Honorable Betty J. Williams and Therese Barber.

Pearson, a retired educator, received the "Howard C. Barnhill Distinguished Service Award." Pearson received his B.S. degree from N.C. A&T in 1952 and M.S. degree in 1966.

He is a member of numerous organizations affiliated with A&T including the Board-in-Control of Intercollegiate Athletics, Gate City Alumni Chapter and the Greensboro Aggie Club. He is the immediate past president of A&T Aggie Heritage Friends, through which he has an endowed scholarship to the university. In 1985, Pearson was inducted into A&T's Sports Hall of Fame.

Williams received the "Julia S. Brooks Achievement Award." She was elected to the New York State Civil Court in November 2000. The 1966 graduate also received a degree from Columbia University and New York Law School. She is a member- at- large of the A&T New York Alumni Chapter. In 2000, she received the "Aggie of the Year" award. Williams is a board member of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Health Complex, Lewis Gallery and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Barber was the recipient of the "Velma R. Speight Young Alumni Award." She received a B.S. degree in biology from A&T in 1990 and a M.S. degree in biology from Howard University in 1997. While attending Howard, she became a member of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the A&T Alumni Association Inc. She currently serves as the second vice president and membership chairperson of the Chapter. In addition, she serves as recording secretary for the Northeast Region.
