A&T COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS


GREENSBORO, NC
- The College of Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University recently announced new appointments and promotions.

Dr. Leonard C. Uitenham has been named chair of the department of mechanical and chemical engineering. His position became effective July 1. Uitenham received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical/polymer engineering from Case Western Reserve, M.S. degree in Strategic and National Security from the U.S. Army War College and Ph.D. degree in polymer and chemical engineering from Case Western Reserve University.

Uitenham has been a N.C. A&T faculty member since 2001. Uitenham has an extensive engineering and management background working for several companies over the past 30 years. He has worked for Borg-Warner Chemicals, Diamond Shamrock, General Tire, Sherwin-Williams and PPG Industries. He is also a colonel in the United States Marine Corp.

Dr. Shih-Liang Wang has been appointed director of the mechanical engineering program effective August 12. He has been a faculty member in the College since 1986, serving as professor and graduate coordinator. Wang received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University.


Dr. Keith Schimmel has been appointed director of the engineering program effective August 12. He has been a faculty member in the College since 1990, serving as associate professor and undergraduate coordinator in the chemical engineering department.


Schimmel received his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from Northwestern University.
