A&T School of Technology to Sponsor Lecture Series

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The School of Technology at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will sponsor its Interdisciplinary “Brown Bag” Lecture Series in Engineering, Science and Technology Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Memorial Union Ballroom from Noon – 1 p.m.

The speaker will be Nick Lappos, director of S-92 Programs for Sikorsky in Stratford, Ct.  The topic will be “The Creative Role of the Engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft.”

Lappos is responsible for the development, test, certification and production of the S-92.  He was director of Test for Sikorsky in 1999 and 2000.  He was also a test pilot for Sikorsky for over 25 years, and has flown over 70 different helicopter types.  He was the chief R&D test pilot for over 12 years.

Lappos flew the first flights of many experimental aircrafts, including the S-76.  He participated in the development of the Black Hawk, the Super Stallion, the XH-59A Advancing Blade Concept (ABC).  He flew the structural shakedown of the RAH-66 Comanche.

Lappos has over 7,000 hours flight time, including 950 hours of combat and 2,000 hours of Flight Test experience.

Lappos graduated as an aerospace engineer from Georgia Tech.  He is a Fellow of the American Helicopter Society and a Member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.  Nick holds 15 U.S. patents on flight and engine controls and cockpit displays, and three FAI recognized helicopter world records.

Lappos is a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and flew Cobra attack helicopters in over 900 combat operations.
