GREENSBORO, N.C. - General Dynamics Network Systems recently awarded North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University $30,000 to create scholarships for the University’s Diversity in Engineering Program. The check was presented to A&T Chancellor James C. Renick  by  Nathan Sanders, vice president of human resources at General Dynamics Network Systems.

Every year in this country thousands of jobs – particularly technology related jobs - go unfilled because potential U.S. workers lack the skills,” said Sanders.  “We hope that these scholarships will help address the needs of the technology industry for a skilled workforce, as well as generate opportunity for a student population that traditionally has not been encouraged or supported in earning technology based degrees.”

The recipients of the 2003 General Dynamics Network Systems scholarships will be minority students chosen by the College of Engineering staff and General Dynamics. The awardees will be announced this spring.

The scholarships are given to recognize the achievements of  outstanding students in the university’s Diversity in Engineering Program and to encourage minority students to join the N.C. A&T’s engineering program.
