A&T TO WELCOME NEW CHANCELLOR
Dr. Harold L. Martin, Sr.

North Carolina A&T State University will have a ceremony to welcome its 12th Chancellor, Dr. Harold L. Martin Sr., on Tuesday, June 23. The "Welcome Celebration," will be held at 6 p.m. in front of the historic Dudley Building, located on University Circle. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, community and business leaders, and supporters are expected to be on hand to greet the new leader.

Martin, a N.C. A&T graduate began serving as chancellor of his alma mater on June 8. Prior to coming to the institution, the Winston-Salem native had served since 2006 as senior vice president for academic affairs of the multi-campus University of North Carolina. As the 17-campus university’s top academic officer, he was responsible for leading the university’s educational and research missions.

Martin has also served as Chancellor of Winston-Salem State University.

Martin is returning to A&T, where he joined the faculty in 1980, was named chairman of the department of electrical engineering in 1985, dean of the College of Engineering in 1989 and vice chancellor for academic affairs in 1994.

"I am delighted to have been chosen to lead this great and historic institution," Martin said. "As your newly elected chancellor, I am committed to serving our alma mater with energy and enthusiasm. Working together, I am confident we can realize unprecedented levels of achievements for the university. I am excited about the opportunity to be home."

Martin received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from A&T and a doctorate in the field from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is married to Davida Martin, an A&T alumna who serves as county attorney for Forsyth County. They have two sons, Harold Jr., and Walter.

The "Welcome Ceremony" for Martin is open to the public. Persons attending the event will have an opportunity to visit A&T University Galleries, featuring the H.C. Taylor and Mattye Reed art collections. For additional information about the event, call (336) 256-0863.
