STOCKTON TALKS BANKING WITH A&T STUDENTS

Dmitri Stockton, senior vice president of General Electric, recently spoke at North Carolina A&T State University's Closing Bell Speaker Series hosted by the School of Business and Economics.

Stockton was appointed to the position of President and CEO for GE Capital Global Banking in December 2008. This business brings together all of GE’s banking operations in Asia, Europe and Latin America under one umbrella. The business has banking platforms across 26 countries and approximately $100 billion in assets.

Stockton's topic was "Emerging Banking Markets."

Stockton graduated from A&T in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in accounting and began his career with General Electric in 1987 in its financial management program. Later He joined the GE Capital Audit staff and was later tapped to become the managing director of GE Commercial Real Estate in 1994.

His climb up the corporate ladder continued when in 1997, he became the company's chief risk officer of GE Mortgage Corporation; senior vice president for marketing and business development at GE Mortgage Insurance and GE Capital Officer in 1999; senior vice president for New Growth Initiatives and chief executive officer for GE Capital Bank in Switzerland both in 2001. Then in 2005, Stockton was named a GE company officer and appointed President & CEO of GE Money – Central and Eastern Europe, with responsibilities for the Middle East region added in 2007.

The Closing Bell Speaker Series was initiated in the Fall 2008 to coincide with the opening of the Financial Trading Room, in the School of Business and Economics. The seminars, beginning at the 4 p.m. time of the New York Stock Exchange closing bell, were held over the Fall and Spring semesters of 2008-2009. Business leaders, who hold significant financial responsibilities in the investment industry or in the corporate or non-profit sectors are invited to lead presentations. The primary objective of the series is to increase financial industry awareness and to emphasize the interdisciplinary aspects of the industry. Participants across academic disciplines are invited to share in the monthly events.
