A&T SENIOR CLASS WILL ESTABLISH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR SLAIN STUDENT

The Senior Class of 2009 at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is establishing an endowed scholarship in memory of student Dennis Stuart Hayle, who died in January 2009.

Hayle's death came as a shock to the entire campus, especially students who were close to him and who described him as a young man of "impeccable character" and an "infectious personality." At the time of his death, Hayle was a senior political science major and active member in the Mu Psi chapter of Omega Psi Phi. "Dennis touched the lives of countless Aggies," recalled Dominique Donaldson, senior class vice president.

The endowed scholarship awards will be for deserving and qualified students. Student leaders are asking community members to make a contribution in honor of Hayle and in the spirit of his service to community activities such as his work on Sen. Kay Hagan's campaign.

The Senior Class set a goal to raise $25,000 and the scholarship will be eligible for matching funds, bringing the endowment to $50,000.

"There is no better way to honor Dennis' life than by establishing a scholarship in his name as a lasting legacy of his life. We want to have a scholarship in his name that reflects the essence of his goal, (which was) to help others," said Donaldson.
