A&T REGISTER BRINGS HOME NINE AWARDS FROM HBCU STUDENT NEWS MEDIA CONFERENCE

Students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University's campus newspaper, The A&T Register, traveled to Durham, N.C., to attend the Black College Communication Association (BCCA) 11th Annual National HBCU Student News Media Conference. The conference was held February 12-14, at the Durham Civic Center and hosted by North Carolina Central University.

Students participated in career work sessions and a career fair hosted by the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE). Students of the A&T Register took with them copies of their work for the newspaper that was used to compete with about 200 other students from more than 20 other HBCU’s. The Register staff was successful in bringing back nine awards to add to their collection. The conference ended Saturday with the awards banquet for the Excellence in Journalism Contest.

The awards are as follows:
First Place in Best Online Audio Story "Ride to the Polls with Mayor Johnson" by Leroy V. Mikel III
Second Place in Best A&E Criticism by Stacie Bailey
Second Place in Best Signed Commentary or Column by Dexter Mullins
Second Place in Best Headline Writer by Malcolm Eustache
Second Place in Best Editorial/Opinion Section by the staff
Third Place in Best News Coverage (2008 Elections) by the staff
Honorable Mention in Best Informational Graphics or News Art/Illustration by Michael McCray
Honorable Mention in Best Headline Writer by Leroy V. Mikel III
Honorable Mention in Best Design Broadsheet or Tabloid
