Twenty-one North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
students accompanied university honors director Dr. Peter Meyers and assistant
director Sandrea Williamson to the annual meeting of the National Association of
African American Honors Programs, hosted in Columbia, S.C., by Benedict College,
Claflin University, and South Carolina State University, November 1-4.
At the meeting the students presented papers or took part in Quiz Bowl
competition. The A&T Quiz Bowl team made it all the way to the final game
undefeated, where they lost to a strong undefeated team from Hampton University.
Members of the Honors Program Quiz Bowl team were Crystal Ivey, a senior from
Reidsville, N.C., double majoring in history and earth and environmental
science; Kendra Ferguson, sophomore history major from Rich Square, N.C.; Robert
Allen Owens, sophomore physics major from Charlotte, N.C., and Kelli Williams,
sophomore journalism and mass communications major from Charlotte, N.C. Kia
Goosby, also a sophomore journalism and mass communications major, from Atlanta,
Ga., was the team alternate.
A&T Students who presented papers, their classifications, majors and home towns

pathology, Chesterfield, Va.; Jonathan E. Alford, junior chemical engineering,
Greensboro; Aleisha N. Baker, sophomore, physics, Charlotte, N.C.; Ashley M.
Crowder, junior, political science, Kinston, N.C.; Rashawnda S. Daniels, senior,
elementary education, Portsmouth, Va.; Raymond A. Gardner, sophomore, political
science, Charlotte, N.C.; Nicole C. Glenn, senior, political science, Milton,
Ma; Shavon Hines, senior, history, Fayetteville, N.C.; Martin Jones, senior,
physics, Greensboro, N.C., and Waynette J. Kimball, junior, Littleton, N.C.
