GREENSBORO, N.C. - Five students of fashion merchandising and
design at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
won awards at a recent fund-raising gala and competition hosted by the
Greensboro Triad Textile and Apparel Club.
Tiffany Douglas and Jamin Jennings won third place and were awarded
$300 in fashion design for their entry, a black lace evening pant set.
Students competing in the category had to conceive and draw a design,
create a pattern for it, construct the garment, and have it
professionally modeled at the event.
Aurelia Kennedy, Mitchell McCraw and Fathia Pender placed third and
were awarded $200 in the window display competition, in which
contestants were required to creatively represent a textile company in
a window display. The students featured fabrics made from Nilit nylon
products for their display entitled "Cruisin' to the
Caribbean."
The competition drew submissions from more than 100 students from N.C.
A&T, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North
Carolina State University and Appalachian State University. Proceeds
from the annual event provide scholarships for students majoring in
textiles merchandising or design at the four universities.
