GREENSBORO, N.C. - The next session of the REAL
Entrepreneurship program starts Jan. 6. The East Market Street
Development Corporation partners with N.C. A&T's School of
Business and Economics to present the program, whose first session was
held Sept. 30.
The program is designed for individuals interested in starting or
expanding their own small businesses, the hands-on course helps each
participant identify and develop necessary business skills, scan the
community for small business opportunities, and prepare a business
plan that includes a marketing plan and financial projections.
Participants also are introduced to "e-commerce," or using
the Internet to expand or revitalize their businesses. They also
receive individual mentoring.
Greensboro participants who successfully complete comprehensive
business plans will be eligible for funding from an innovative loan
program provided by a consortium of local small business resources.
REAL (Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning) Enterprises
chose the EMSDC from among organizations nationwide to present the
program, which in other communities has led to the development of
successful businesses in areas including music sales, cabinet and
furniture making, recycling, small engine repair and pressure washing.
First timers are encouraged to start with home-based businesses that
require minimal capital.
Enrollment in the nine-week course is limited to 25 participants. For
more information or to apply, call the EMSDC office at 275-1101. The
deadline to apply is Dec. 31.
