      A&T ANNOUNCES ITS OPENING ACTIVITIES
GREENSBORO, NC - North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
will have the opening activities for the new academic year 2002-03, Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 12-13 for faculty and staff.

The Academy for Teaching and Learning will host a workshop for new faculty, second-year faculty and administrators from 8-10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, in the Memorial Union Ballroom.

At 10:30 a.m. in Harrison Auditorium, A&T Chancellor James C. Renick will give a campus update and report on activities regarding the implementation of FUTURES, N.C. A&T's strategic visioning process. A picnic on the parade grounds in front of the Dudley Building will be held for faculty and staff from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The rain site is the Exhibit Hall of the Memorial Union.

At 1 p.m., the Office of Human Resources and the Academy for Teaching and Learning will host an interdisciplinary workshop for faculty and staff in Memorial Union Stallings Ballroom. The presenter will be Greg Gray, founder and president of Renaissance Unlimited, Inc. Gray will address key areas related to communication, service, leadership development and the importance of teamwork in a responsive learning environment during times of economic constraints.

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 7:15 - 8:45 a.m. in the Williams Cafeteria Faculty Dining Room, a breakfast will be held for faculty that are teaching freshman introductory and core courses. At 9 a.m. a benefits orientation for new faculty will be held in the Human Resources Conference Room #009 at 1020 Wendover Ave.

Freshmen and other new students will begin arriving on campus Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11. On Sunday, Aug. 11, an opening ceremony will be held for new students and parents. A New Student Fair, Building Community Forum and Aggie Parents Association Meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 12. Activities for Tuesday, Aug. 13, include academic deans' meetings, campus tours, auditions for the new student talent show and Aggie Olympics. Sessions on the "First Year Experience," campus safety and receptions for minority and non-traditional students will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 14. "The First Year Experience" sessions will continue on Thursday, Aug. 15. On that same day there will be an Aggie Pride Pep Rally. Activities for Friday, Aug. 16, include "First Year Experience" sessions, a freshman elections information session, cookout, talent show, and step show. Activities for Saturday, Aug. 17, will include Aggie Assemble and Takeover Day (Greensboro business community offers discounts for students) and a block party.  A worship service, chancellor's reception for new students, and the Class of 2006 Aggie Pride Ceremony of Dedication will be held on Sunday, August 18.

Registration will begin Aug. 13, for freshman and Aug. 15 for the entire university. The last day for registration is Aug. 23. Fall semester classes begin Monday, August 19.
