      A&T ENGINEERING STUDENT WINS NATIONAL AWARD
GREENSBORO, NC - A graduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University earned first prize in a national contest.

Sirithala Irulappan received first place in the Student Paper Contest at the 13th Annual Meeting of the North American Membrane Society NAMS, held recently in Long Beach, Calif.

The title of her paper was "Synthesis and Evaluation of Pt-Based Binary and Ternary Metal-Alloy CO-Tolerant Electrocatalysts for PEM Fuel Cells." Her advisor is Dr. Shamsuddin Ilias, an A&T professor of chemical engineering.

Irulappan's paper was chosen over 44 other papers from other participating schools.

Irulappan won a $250 cash prize with the award.
