Martin to Keynote A&T’s Career Banquet

Greensboro, N.C. - Mitchell A. Martin, founder of the accounting
firm Martin, Harps, Syphoe & Company (MHS & Co.), will be
the keynote speaker for North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s 2003 Annual
Career Awareness Program (CAP). The event will be held Sept. 9-10.
The theme for the program, which
is celebrating its 29th year, is
“Soaring to New Heights.”

More than 150 companies and
(mostly Fortune 500) and over
400 representatives from across
the United States will participate
in the program, which continues
to be the largest of its kind among historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and ranks
very high in national standing.

The purpose of the program is to
provide information to students on

careers as well as set the preliminary groundwork for the fall and spring recruitment seasons. Representative
have an opportunity to interact with administrators, faculty, and students throughout the program.

The program will kick off at 8:45 a.m.
with a seminar in the General
Classroom Building. At the seminar, employers, administrators, faculty
and students will share information.
At 6:45 p.m. that same day, Martin
will speak at the Career Awareness Program Banquet, which will be held
at the Sheraton Four Seasons (Note: Attendance by invitation only). The
Career Fair will be held September 10 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Corbett Sports Center.

Martin received a B.S. degree from
A&T and a MBA degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

He started his career as an auditor
with the big eight accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Company in Atlanta, Ga. and 4 ˝ years later became vice president and controller with Cable Atlanta. After 4 ˝ years, he left Cable Atlanta to form his own company MHS
& Co., which is one of the most widely known minority certified public accounting
firms in the Southeast. It was the first minority firm in the 100-year history of
the Olympics to conduct the audit of
the 1996 games. In addition to MHS & Co., Martin co-founded Grecian Foods, Inc., now known as Global Concessions Inc. Global Concessions Inc., is a multi-franchise owner/operator which currently owns and operates the following franchises: Great Wraps, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (2), Pretzel Time (2) and Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs. The
company also owns and operates Sojourner’s Bar at the Atlanta Airport.
