SEPTA'S GENERAL MANAGER TO KEYNOTE A&T'S CAREER BANQUET

GREENSBORO, NC - Faye L. Mitchell Moore, general manager of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation (SEPTA), will be the keynote speaker for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University's 28th annual Career Awareness Program. The event will be held Sept. 10-11. The theme this year is "Seize the Moment."

More than 175 companies (mostly Fortune 500) and over 400 representatives from across the United States will participate in the program, which features one of the largest job fairs in the country.

"This is one of the largest career awareness fairs sponsored by a university," said Joyce Edwards, executive director of Career Services and Experiential Learning. "The purpose of the event is to expose A&T and other students to the career opportunities available in their chosen field of study as well as provide insight into the job market. Students are encouraged to start their career search by attending this event, asking questions, and following up on leads through this networking activity."

The program will kick off at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10. Morning activities will include an address by Chancellor James C. Renick and a panel discussion by A&T students and deans. At 7 p.m. that same day, Moore will speak at the Career Awareness Program Banquet, which will be held at the Sheraton Four Seasons - Joseph S. Koury Convention Center (Note: Attendance by invitation only).

An A&T alumna, Moore is the first African American and the first woman general manager of SEPTA, the fifth largest transit authority in the country. She joined the company in 1995, as the first minority treasurer in the authority's history. Moore is the ultimate decision-maker on operating policies and human resources for the $2 billion transportation authority, which has almost 10,000 employees.

A certified public accountant, Moore received her accounting degree in 1976. Her husband Daniel and her daughter Fenita also have accounting degrees from A&T.

A Career Awareness Day Fair will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Corbett Sports Center. The fair will give students an opportunity to network with companies about employment and career opportunities.
