Pemberton Named Curator for Mattye Reed African Heritage Center
Greensboro, N.C. - Merri Christi Pemberton
has been named curator of the Mattye Reed African Heritage Center at North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
In 2000, Pemberton received her degree in art
history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). During
her
senior year at UNCG, she obtained a curatorial internship with Chinqua-Penn
Plantation’s historical house museum.
At Chinqua-Penn, she moved into the
position of museum teacher and also assisted the curator with developing and
executing additional research projects, museum education programs and events.
After leaving Chinqua-Penn, Pemberton worked with
various art and education institutions as an arts and culture educator.
These
institutions included the Greensboro Cultural Center and UNCG’s Arts and
Sciences Camp.
A freelance writer, Pemberton has been a
columnist contributor for ESP Magazine. Her work has also been featured in the
Triad Style publication, now called Go Triad.
