A&T Student Receives Scholarship

Bionca Chapman

GREENSBORO -Bionca Chapman, a junior at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, has received Triad Black Media Professionals’ (TBMP) Gary L. Davis Memorial Scholarship. The $1000 scholarship was awarded to Chapman at the organization’s annual meeting.

A native of Greensboro, Chapman is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in broadcast production. She is member of Spot Television Entertainment and an intern with the Carolina Peacemaker. Chapman is the daughter of John and Esther Chapman.


TBMP was founded in 1989. It is a support and networking organization

for media professionals and students interested in media related careers. The organization serves as a resource for the community by providing workshops on such topics as understanding and utilizing the media.
The Gary L. Davis Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of Gary Davis (1957-1992), a civic leader and teacher in the Piedmont Triad community and a dedicated member of TBMP.

Each year TBMP awards a scholarship in Davis’ honor to a minority student majoring in communications at one of the three historically black colleges/universities in the Triad. Those institutions are N. C. A&T, Bennett College and Winston-Salem State University.
