A&T Student Wins Organ Donation Art Contest

GREENSBORO -
Joe McCall, a senior graphics communications and visual arts major
at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, was
the winner of the organ donation art contest held by the Historically
Black College/ University (HBCU) Health Promotion Alliance and Teloca
(Student Nurses Association). The project is funded by the North Carolina
Department of Health and Human Resources. McCall’s original illustration (11 by 19) was of two hands cradling the earth and holding a heart centered on the contest theme “Giving the Gift of Life” to depict what individuals should know about the importance of organ donation. McCall received a first place engraved plaque and a certificate for 20 percent off at the A&T bookstore. His design |
will
be featured on the back of A&T’s
winter 2003 schedule catalog. The artist currently has other artwork showcased at the H.C. Taylor Art Gallery as part of the Annual Juried Spring Exhibition, which is sponsored by A&T’s department of visual and performing arts. The student exhibition will be displayed through May 8. The HBCU Health Promotion Alliance Project is a partnership among four HBCU’s and three state agencies in North Carolina. These partners include A&T, St. Augustine’s College, Fayetteville State University and North Carolina Central University along with the North Carolina Office of Minority Health, the Division of Medical Assistance and the Office of Rural Health. |
