N.C. A&T Fall 2017 Commencement to be Held Dec. 9

Greensboro, N.C. (Nov. 28, 2017) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will hold one fall 2017 commencement ceremony at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at the Greensboro Coliseum, 1921 West Gate City Blvd. Coliseum doors will open at 7:30 a.m. 

The university is set to graduate over 900 students including, 693 undergraduate, 233 graduate and 30 Ph.D. candidates. 

Dr. Lisa Owens-Jackson will deliver the ceremony keynote address. Owens-Jackson is the associate dean of the College of Business and Economics (COBE), associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance and a distinguished alumna. 

In March, the University of North Carolina Board of Governors selected Owens-Jackson to receive the 2017 Excellence in Teaching Award for N.C. A&T. 

Committed to continual learning and educating, she specializes in the use of financial and managerial accounting information for decision making and the measurement of organizational success. Additionally, she leads COBE’s Assessment of Learning Process. 

She is noted for having a distinct passion for accounting education research, examining the impact of diversity on accounting education and the accounting profession. Her teaching methods are inclusive and acknowledge student diversity. 

Among many other awards and honors, Owens-Jackson was recognized in 2016 as the Academic Advisor of the Year by COBE and the Beta Alpha Psi Honor Organization. She has presented her research at the European Accounting Association, the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, the LEAN Accounting Summit and other conferences. 

In addition to the B.S. she earned at A&T, Owens-Jackson received an M.A. in Accounting from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in Accounting from Oklahoma State University.
