Tropical Storm Irma Update and Guidance

Tropical Storm Irma continues its path to the north/northwest, and weather experts say Greensboro will feel its most significant effects overnight this evening between midnight and 7 a.m.

This area is currently under a Wind Advisory, which means sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph are possible, with wind gusts of 46 to 57 mph; that advisory is scheduled to remain in effect until 4 a.m. tomorrow. The area is also projected to get between 1 and 3 inches of rain. Short-lived, isolated tornadoes are also possible during this period. While Greensboro is likely to experience rain throughout Tuesday, the strong winds are expected to dissipate by the time the university’s normal operations begin on Tuesday.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to exercise caution throughout this evening and early Tuesday when outside and plan to remain indoors, if possible. Flying debris and other hazards are possible in these conditions. Minimize your risks by postponing any unnecessary travel until the Wind Advisory lifts tomorrow morning.
