A&T Appoints New Dean for the School of Business and Economics
North Carolina A&T State University has appointed Dr. Beryl McEwen as the new dean for the School of Business and Economics (SOBE), effective August 6.
McEwen has served as N.C. A&T State University’s vice provost for strategic planning and institutional effectiveness and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) liaison since August 2012. Prior to her role as vice provost she served as the associate dean of the School of Business and Economics from 2010-2012 and led its successful AACSB International reaffirmation of accreditation effort.
“For nearly two decades, Dr. McEwen has provided excellent leadership in a number of key administrative positions at the university. She will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role as dean,” said Provost Joe B. Whitehead Jr.
The position reports to the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. McEwen will be responsible for advancing the degree programs; fostering excellence in research, teaching and engagement; promoting local, regional, national, and global visibility; continuing the advancement of innovation and entrepreneurship; and increasing the school’s financial resources. The dean will also work closely with local, regional and national business leaders and collaboratively with the Division of University Advancement to build a substantial endowment to fund new initiative and enhance the school’s future.
McEwen joined the faculty of the SOBE in 1995 as chair of the department of business education. McEwen holds a bachelor’s degree in business education from the University of Technology, Jamaica, and a master’s degree and doctorate in business education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
