MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY AT AGGIE STADIUM

The office of veteran and disability support services (OVDSS) and the athletics department at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will honor military veterans on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. – 2p.m. at the N.C. A&T vs. Savannah State football game.

“We’re excited that we get an opportunity to honor our veterans,” said Lt. Col. Joshua Jones, director of OVDSS.  “For several years now our office has been partnering with the athletics department to honor all those who’ve served in the United States Armed Forces.”

Each year the two departments choose a home football game to honor veterans. On Saturday, anyone with a valid military or veteran identification card will be able to purchase discounted football game tickets for $15. Tickets for children 12 years-of-age and under are $10.

During the football game visitors can expect to see static displays, family-friendly games, a free tailgate for veterans and guests and several of veteran support vendors. At half time in Aggie Stadium all military personnel will be recognized.

Jones is a retired commissioned officer of the United States Army where he served for 22 years. His last active duty assignment was right here at N.C. A&T as professor of military science in the Army ROTC program for the Greensboro consortium of schools.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has been applauded as a military friendly school. The university was recently listed as one of the top college for future service members and has maintained thriving ROTC programs for over 65 years.

The ROTC programs, local US Army Reserves and National Guard units have also worked with OVDSS and the athletics department to make this year’s military appreciation day the best one yet.

“We are using every avenue available to us to let veterans know that this is a day in which we would like to celebrate and honor them and we want them to participate in the processes,” said Jones.
