A&T WEEKLY NEWSPAPER WINS AWARDS
The A&T Register, the weekly student newspaper at North Carolina A&T State University, won three awards at the N.C. College Media Association convention. The contest results were announced Feb. 18, 2012 and the entries reflect the 2011 spring, summer and fall semesters.
Four students were recognized for their work on The A&T Register.
Those students include:
Sylvia Obell, a senior journalism major/print concentration, who is from Ewing, N.J. Obell is the managing editor of The A&T Register. In addition to The A&T Register, her writing credits include the News & Record (Greensboro, N.C.) and Advocate Messenger in Danville, Ky. Obell is part of the 2011 Freedom Forum Multimedia Scholars class.
Jenell McMillon, a junior journalism major/print concentration, who is from Burlington, N.J. McMillon is a regular contributor to the newspaper and its website. Her writing credits also include Tasteful magazine.
Kenneth Hawkins, a senior journalism major/print concentration, who is from Atlanta. Hawkins is the photo editor for the newspaper and he has also worked for the News & Record (Greensboro, N.C.) and St. Petersburg Times (St. Petersburg, Fla.). He is a New York Times Summer Institute alum. He is part of the 2011 Chips Quinn Scholar class and an NABJ Student Projects Participant. He is a 2012 Pulliam Fellow and will be going to the Indianapolis Star after graduation.
Trumaine McCaskill, a senior history major, who is from Clayton. McCaskill has been the opinion editor the the newspaper for two years. He plans to pursue a teaching career after graduation.
