FIRST TECH CHALLENGE

The Office of University Outreach, presents the North Carolina FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC) Aggieland Championship on Saturday, February 25, 2012.  The tournament is open to the public at 11 a.m. with the opening ceremony and parade of teams.  It will be held in the Corbett Sports Complex on the N.C. A&T State University campus.  FIRST® represents For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.  FTC is the competition for high school students, age 14-18 who this year had to incorporate the theme “Bowled Over” into their work.  Teams of up to 10 players design and build robots robust enough to push a bowling ball uphill, yet sophisticated enough to pick up racquetballs and place them into crates, and then stack the crates to score points.  It’s an exciting and fun event that showcases the benefits of using math, science and engineering.  The students battle to earn a spot in the national championship and quality for nearly $9.7 million in scholarships.  The N.C. A&T Office of University Outreach, serves as the Operational partner for North Carolina and manages all regional and state competitions.  Dr. Daphne Rainey heads the STEM Advancement and Academic Engagement for the Office of University Outreach.
