Aggies Remember Specialist Mark Anthony Bibby

Mark Anthony BibbyA North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University student and Army Reserve Member was killed July 21, 2003 in Iraq. Specialist Mark Anthony Bibby of Willard, N.C., was a member of the Army Reserves 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion from Greensboro.

Bibby was a sophomore transportation major in N.C. A&T’s School of Business and Economics. He was enrolled at A&T for the spring semester but was called to active military duty in January.

According to U.S. Army Civil Affairs, Bibby was part of a convoy to a water treatment facility in Baghdad when he was killed by hostile fire. The 25-year-old soldier was a chemical operations specialist responsible for nuclear, biological and chemical detection and decontamination for his unit.

Chancellor James C. Renick said the entire A&T Family sends special thoughts and prayers to the Bibby Family. “We are deeply saddened by this news regarding one of our brave, young students.”

U.S. Army Special Operations Command said the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion was deployed to Iraq to participate in the coalition effort to assist the Iraqi people in rebuilding Iraq following decades of neglect and abuse under the Hussein regime.

Bibby is survived by his father, Eustace, and his mother, Jean.
