
According to reports from Johnston County Sheriff's Department, a North Carolina A&T State University student was killed on Saturday, March 13, outside Benson, NC. Herbert Lee Dixon, III, a 20-year-old sophomore, was one of three people shot at the D&L Night Club at 2:30 a.m. Dixon was the only fatality. The Johnston County Sheriff's Department has arrested a Goldsboro man as the suspect in the shooting.Dixon returned to his home of Clinton, NC, during the N.C. A&T spring break. He was an outstanding inside linebacker on the University's championship football team. A&T head football coach George Small described Dixon as an excellent athlete who worked hard to win. Small said,"as we grieve and pray with the Dixon Family, we need to ask for wisdom to understand the bigger plan for all our lives." Chancellor James C. Renick said, "the entire Aggie Family sends encouragement to the Dixon Family during their hour of need. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with them." Vice Chancellor Roselle Wilson said A&T's counseling services are available for athletes, students, faculty and staff. The funeral service for Herbert Lee Dixon was held on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at 2:00 pm at Clinton Senior High School in Clinton, NC. A campus/community memorial service for Dixon and other A&T students who have died this academic year was held at 5 p.m., Monday, March 22, in Harrison Auditorium. Special Loving Rememberances |
