On
May 9, 2008, Chancellor Battle will host “An Evening with
Bill Cosby” to kick off his fundraising efforts to increase
funds for new and existing scholarship programs at N.C. A&T.
Cosby – a best-selling, award-winning
comedian and author who uses humor to provide an insight into
our roles as men, women and family members – has a doctorate
in education coupled with a longstanding history of supporting
young people through gifts to institutions of higher education.
He recently lent his name to a collaborative effort between
N.C. A&T, Guilford County Schools and Guilford Technical
Community College that aims to enhance the academic performance
and related areas of targeted students in the fourth, sixth
and eighth grades.
Cosby’s performance on May 9
also demonstrates his commitment to and belief in Chancellor
Battle’s new scholarship initiatives, such as the Lewis
and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Program. Named for the sixth president/first
chancellor of N.C. A&T and his wife, the Dowdy Scholars
Program is a unique scholarship initiative for incoming freshmen
in all majors and academic disciplines that will offer scholarships
for in-state and out-of-state students based on academic performance.
The program is a tangible way for alumni and friends to say
they will support students and show Aggie Pride by donating
dollars for scholars.
This event will be held on May 9 at 7:00
at the Guilford Ballroom, Sheraton Greensboro at Four Seasons. Please
