Theatre Arts Program Presents: Jitney by August Wilson

DATE & TIME:    October 24 – 27, 2013

                                  Thursday, Friday, Saturday @8:00pm

                                  Sunday @3:00pm

Jitney is set in a worn-down gypsy cab station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in early autumn 1977 (the term “Jitney” refers to unlicensed taxi cabs - that service high-crime areas where licensed cabs don't want to go). The play centers on the tension between cab station operator Becker and his son, Booster who returns home after serving time for murdering his wealthy white girlfriend, who accused him of rape. Pulitzer Prize winning playwright August Wilson has crafted an assortment of characters who are strong and compelling and must endure harsh, painful lessons before they can embark on a journey of forgiveness and redemption.
