Mary E. Peek

Mary E. Peek, a retired educator, taught English for more than seventeen years. She retired from NC A&T State University. Prior to her work at A&T, she was an Instructor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro; a teaching fellow at Bowling Green State University; Assistant Dean of Women and Instructor at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA and teacher at Albert Harris High School in Martinsville, VA. Mrs. Peek has a number of professional achievements that include owner/founder of Carolina Attractions, an entertainment promoter for eleven years.

Her awards include a full academic/Teaching Fellowship in the English Doctoral Program at Bowling Green State University and a Full Scholarship in Graduate Social Work at Atlanta University. She presently serves on the NC A&T State University Foundation Board of Directors. Other Board seats include the Green Hill Art Gallery and African American Atelier Gallery.

She is a charter member of the Aggie Heritage Club and holds a Life membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is a Public School Volunteer, a member of the Social Justice Committee and the Greensboro Association of Links, Inc. She has one daughter and three grandchildren.

Mary E. Peek Endowed Scholarship Criteria

The Mary E. Peek Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to deserving students as determined by the University Scholarship Committee based on the criteria below. In making the selection, this committee will consider such attributes as scholarship, leadership, community service, exceptional talent and financial need. The committee will give special selection consideration and preference to students:
• Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Students majoring in English
• Students must submit a 300-word essay explaining future goals and reasons why the applicant should be chosen for this scholarship
• Students must demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities
