George A. Johnson Scholarship Fund

Dr. Johnson retired as chairman of the Department of Animal Sciences, where he had served in this position from 1978 to 1998. Dr. Johnson was born in Manhattan, New York where he received his early education. He received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee Institute, Alabama; a Master's of Science Degree in Food Science and Technology from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tuskegee Institute. Before arriving at North Carolina A&T State University, he served in a variety of positions.

He served as Associate Director of the District of Columbia Cooperative Extension Service and Dean of the Washington Technical Institute, Department of Food Technology, Washington, D.C. Dr. Johnson guided the department in a positive direction for many years. He made many contributions during this service.

Sadly, he passed away September 30, 2001 after a brief illness. His greatest love and inspiration was for the students that came through the department. It was his everlasting dream that students should have access to funds to attend school.

George A. Johnson Endowed Scholarship Fund Criteria

Scholarships from the George A. Johnson Scholarship Endowment Fund will be awarded to deserving students as determined by the Animal Sciences Scholarship Committee based on the criteria cited below. In making the selection, this Committee shall consider such attributes as scholarship, leadership, community service, exceptional talent and financial need. The committee shall give special selection consideration to:
• Students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
• A minimum SAT score of 800 or 19 on the ACT
• Demonstrated interest in the field of Animal Sciences
