Elmore M. Kennedy Endowed Scholarship

The Elmore M. Kennedy Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by members of the Class of 1953 who were the first to graduates of the university to receive commissions as second lieutenants through Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFROTC) Program at NC A&T State University. The fund is named in honor of then Major Elmore M. Kennedy, Jr., chosen by the USAF to serve as the first Professor of Air Science and Tactics (PAS&T), later changed to Professor of Aerospace Science (PAS) of the AFROTC Department at the University. Kennedy guided the program through a historical chapter of the university. These first graduates who respectfully referred to Kennedy as "The Whip" universally credit him with preparing them to meet the challenges which they faced, not only as young Air Force officers, but in their civilian endeavors also. Establishing the fund is their way of saying "Thank You."
