Air Force ROTC Detachment 605

Detachment 605 Home of the "Screaming Blackbirds"

The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is an educational program designed to provide theoretical and applied leadership experience to become an Air Force Officer, while completing your bachelor's degree. Air Force ROTC is the largest and oldest source of commissioned officers for the Air Force. The organization's mission is to produce leaders for the Air Force. Detachments are located on 145 college and university campuses, with over 1,274 additional schools participating in crosstown agreements that allow their students to attend AFROTC classes at an area host school.

AFROTC Detachment 605 has a long history of producing leaders for the American people. Since 1953, over 930 Commissionees entered various career fields shaping our WORLD'S GREATEST AIR FORCE. Today, cadets from 10 Greensboro Triad colleges work together and train to earn their commission.

To participate in AFROTC, you must be a full-time undergraduate student at North Carolina A&T State University or one of the other participating colleges or universities.  The goal is to commission Second Lieutenants into the Air Force, after evaluating leadership characteristics and ensuring Air Force ROTC and degree requirements are completed.  Air Force ROTC will help you develop both leadership skills and self-confidence, and give opportunities to compete for Air Force ROTC scholarships. Please see our New Students page for step-by-step directions on how to become a part of our team!
