Research areas:  Selected IRES students will work alongside research mentors from North Carolina A&T University (NC A&T), Addis Ababa University (AAU) and Appalachian State University (ASU)  to conduct research in

  • Geophysics:-Sesimiology
  • Geothermal Energy Exploration
  • Ground Water Exploration
  • Atmospheric Sciences: Air quality studies using field measurments

  • Be a US citizen or permanent resident.

  • Be enrolled in a degree-granting program at a United States college or University.

  • Have completed at least 4 semesters of education with a cummulative GPA of at least 3.0.

  • Students who have had course in Earth Science, geophsyics or atmospheric sciences will get preference.


  • Full travel expenses: Air fare, Hotel and substance

  • $500/week stipend for 5 weeks

  • Opportunity to visit the oldest civilazation on Earth- Ethiopia

  • Opportunity to visit eight world heritage sites representing nature, architecture, archaeology, prehistory, art and culture.
