Ademe Mekonnen

Dr. Mekonnen has a broad research interest in meteorology. This includes the interaction between tropical waves and convection, regional monsoons,  climate variability and climate change. He specialises in tropical wave activity and its relationship with convection over tropical Africa and the Atlantic. He has long-years of experience in medium and long-range weather forecast with the Ethiopian Meteorological Service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His objective is to better understand the relationship between tropical waves and convection and rainfall including variability at shorter and longer time scales, and thus, contribute towards our knowledge and understanding of the wave-convection interaction. This will have a significant impact, among other things, on study of Atlantic tropical cyclones. He is interested in all ranges from mesoscale to planetary and from diurnal to interannual and to climate scales.
