One-year MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering

General Description
The MS in ME program has course-only, project, and thesis option leading to the same MS degree in ME. The one-year MS program track is identical to the course-only option and can be completed in one year with the following schedule that incorporates taking a summer course.

Fall Semester:
1. MEEN 601 Continuum Mechanics
2. MEEN 631: Conduction Heat Transfer
3. MATH 650/651/652 (Choose one, either in Fall or Spring)
4. Any one/two courses from MEEN 6XX-MEEN 8xx or a non-ME course approved by the graduate program director

Total: 12 credits

Spring Semester:
1. MEEN 716 Finite Element Methods
2. MATH 650/651/652 (Choose one, either in fall or spring)
3. Any two/one courses from MEEN 6XX-MEEN 8xx or a non-ME course approved by the graduate program director

Total: 12 credits
Summer Session I:

MEEN 6XX- MEEN 8XX or a non-ME course approved by the graduate program director
Total: 3 credits

Summer Session II:

MEEN 6XX- MEEN 8XX or a non-ME course approved by the graduate program director
Total: 3 credits

This program track is intended for newly graduating ME students with a B.S. degree, as well as for those already in the workforce who are interested in:

  • Expanding their education beyond the Bachelor of Science level and improving their professional competitiveness in the job market;
  • Completing an MS degree within 12-months, beginning fall semester and ending during the following summer semester;
  • Gaining an MS degree prior to joining a PhD program at any institutions of higher education.

Eligibility:
This program track is designed to serve students with a Bachelor of Science degree in ME from US or international institutions who meet the Graduate College and departmental admission requirements.
Admission requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
  • The official TOEFL score (at least 80 or higher internet-based score), or IELTS score (6.5 or higher) for international applicants.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Applicants to this one-year MS program track are required to have full funding for their graduate education.

International Students
The application and all supporting documents must be received by June 15. All applications will be considered for starting in Fall semesters only.

Domestic Students
