Research Projects

Dr. Ilias is the PI for Thrust Area III of NSF CREST Bioenergy center (one million dollar a year for five years 2012-2017). Thrust Area III research is in the area of Reforming and Processing of Biofuels for Fuel Cells. Major projects are:

  • III-a Develop an H2-selective Pd-alloy composite membrane on microporous supports and demonstrate its application as a membrane reactor-separator for reforming reactions (Ilias, Kuila)
  • III-b Develop low humidity, high temperature proton conducting membranes for PEMFC (Lou, Ilias)
  • III-c Develop CO-tolerant high surface area, low Pt-loading noble/transition metal electrocatalysts for PEMFC electrodes (Ilias, Kuila)
