The number of Internet users has risen at a steady pace during the past decade. Individuals use the Internet to send emails and instant messages to friends and companions in seconds. Corporations all over the world with a web presence provide their customers with the opportunity to view and purchase their products anytime. However, this 24 / 7 access is not limited to corporations and individuals. Academic institutions have learned that they can use the same technology to provide their clients with this same type of around-the-clock customer service.

In September 2001, the Department of Web Support Services (WSS) was added to North Carolina A&T State University's Division of Information Technology (DOIT). NC A&T uses its website to promote its courses of study, faculty and student research, schedule of activities and community outreach programs to potential students, researchers, corporate partners and other visitors all over the world. A list of some of the services rendered by WSS is provided below.

  • Analyze and recommend new website development tools for the university community
  • Coordinate FrontPage training courses
  • Generate and analyze website activity reports
  • Leverage website technology to facilitate online communication
  • Maintain and support administrative websites
  • Manage University's Website Strategy
  • Provide analytical guidance and assistance in the design and implementation of systems and applications to support
    instructional and administrative activities of the University
  • Provide Level 2 Website Development support
  • Serve as University's liaison to vendors providing custom web-based software for main site or administrative websites
  • Utilize website technology to automate manual processes
