SSFM - Pre Physical Therapy

The Pre-Physical Therapy option will prepare undergraduate students to enter a post-baccalaureate master's or doctoral degree program in exercise science and allied health-related fields such as: physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, athletic training, exercise physiology, biomechanics and sports medicine. Students in the Pre-Physical Therapy program option are required to take 28 credit hours of courses in Pre-Physical Therapy as part of the 124 credit hours for graduation. Additionally, students must obtain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale by the end of their freshman year in order to continue in the Pre-Physical Therapy program option. Students who wish to transfer into the Pre-Physical Therapy program option must have a 2.8 GPA in order to be admitted. Students must also acquire a "C" or better in all program option courses.

Students in the Pre-Physical Therapy option take additional courses in preparation for future graduate study in physical therapy.  These courses include chemistry, physics, statistics, psychology, and medical terminology.  (Courses in this option may not meet all the required prerequisites for a particular physical therapy program- see http://www.ptcas.org/Directory/  for more info). Students in the Pre-Physical Therapy option may also pursue other allied health professions requiring further study and training such as:  

  • Physical Therapy Assistant 
  • Athletic Trainer
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Chiropractic Assistant
  • Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Medical Assistant
