2.How will the A&T Chancellor Search Committee keep the lines of communication open with various constituents?
The Chancellor Search Committee’s official spokesman is Chairman Franklin E. McCain Sr. He and the committee will make every effort to share non-confidential information that they can legally share. A two-way communication process will be established utilizing university faxes, A&T publications, radio, television, plasma screens, internet, email, and social networking sites. Look for information at www.ncat.edu and www.aggienewsonline.com, 90.1 WNAA-FM, and Aggie Infoline at 336.334.7325.

Franklin E. McCain Sr., chairman of the A&T Board of Trustees.

4.Who are the members of the A&T Chancellor Search Committee?
Trustees - Franklin E. McCain Sr. (chair), Pamela McCorkle Buncum (vice chair), D. Hayes Clement, Velma Speight-Buford; Faculty - Linda Florence Callahan, Stephanie Luster-Teasley; Staff - Harry “Hap” Giberson; Alumni - Pamela Johnson; Community - Melvin Swann, Henry Isaacson, Carolyn Turner; Student - Marcus Bass.

5.What criteria were used in selecting the Chancellor Search Committee?
The Chancellor Search Committee is comprised of members who can represent the various constituencies of the university.

6.How were the members of the North Carolina A&T State University Chancellor Search Committee selected?
Following the requirement in the Code of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina, Chairman Franklin E. McCain Sr., acting on behalf of the Board of Trustees, appointed the committee, which was reviewed by UNC President Erskine Bowles. The A&T Chancellor Search Committee is composed of trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community representatives.

7.Will the Chancellor Search Committee select the candidate?
Over the next several months, the Chancellor Search Committee will lead and conduct an official search for the next A&T chancellor. The search committee’s recommendations will be presented to the A&T Board of Trustees, who will, in turn, forward a list of candidates to UNC President Erskine Bowles for consideration. Next, President Bowles will nominate a candidate, who then must be elected by the UNC Board of Governors.

8.The Fall 2009 academic calendar year begins Aug. 12. Will a new A&T chancellor be nominated and elected by then?
Will a new A&T chancellor be nominated and elected by then? That is the objective of the Chancellor Search Committee.

9.Are you sure this date can be reached?
The Chancellor Search Committee is devising a timeline in order to reach critical points.

10.How will you advertise for this important position?
We will advertise in the Chronicle of Higher Education and in Diverse Issues in Higher Education. We will ask alumni, friends of the university, and other interested persons to make recommendations and nominations of viable candidates for us to pursue.

11.Will the final candidates sent to President Bowles from the Board of Trustees be ranked?
President Bowles has asked the Chancellor Search Committee not to rank the finalists.

12.Will future meetings of the Chancellor Search Committee be open for the public to attend?
Some meetings will be open to the public; however, when specific info is shared regarding specific, potential candidates, we must go into executive session to protect their privacy.

13.Why did Chancellor Stanley F. Battle resign?
Chancellor Battle resigned due to family and personal reasons. His resignation is effective June 30.

14.When did Chancellor Battle’s tenure begin at A&T?
Battle assumed the role of A&T chancellor on July 1, 2007.

15.How many chancellors/presidents has A&T had?
Battle is the 11th chancellor/president to serve at the helm of the university since its inception in 1891.
