Priority 3: Professional Development

Faculty Professional Development

The success of the College of Education ultimately hinges upon the quality of our faculty and staff. Your financial support ensures that our faculty and staff in the College of Education are properly equipped to engage culturally and linguistically diverse candidates. A gift of $1,000.00 to $10,000.00 to the CEd Faculty and Student Professional Development Fund can make a significant difference. Developing our faculty’s skills and knowledge base ensures we create an intellectual climate that stimulates our candidates and campus community. Your gift may support one or more of the following:

  • 21st Century State-of-the-Art Technology for Classroom Engagement (e.g., iPads, SmartBoards, computer software like Nvivo, and other data collection software)
  • Travel for conferences, professional meetings, or training workshops
  • Stipends for manuscript publications, sponsored research collaborative, or interview transcriptions
  • Funding for doctoral or graduate student workers to assist with research investigations

Student Professional Development

During each academic year, faculty and administrators expect (and frequently require) undergraduate and graduate candidates to participate in an array of professional development activities. These engagement activities ensure that the College of Education produces educational leaders who serve our communities in ways that positively impact people’s lives. A gift of $1,000.00 to $10,000.00 to the CEd Faculty and Student Professional Development Fund can make a significant impact. Your gift may support one or more of the following:

  • Prekindergarten to 12th-grade instructional workshops
  • Partner School District Professional Development workshops
  • Professional organization meetings and conferences
  • Research meetings and conferences

Faculty Recruitment and Retention

Administrators in the College of Education strive to hire and retain the very best faculty in the world in terms of their instructional acumen, scholarly productivity, and engagement proclivity. Recruiting the very best faculty from across the world who exhibit these characteristics or retaining current faculty who receive enticing job offers from other institutions is critically important to the success of the College of Education. Once a job offer has been extended to a prospective faculty member, the Dean generally has less than seven (7) days to “seal the deal” with the candidate. The same holds true for a current faculty member who receives an employment offer from a competing institution. A gift of $1,000.00 to $10,000.00 to the CEd Faculty and Student Professional Development Fund can guarantee that the College of Education can offer a competitive offer to a prospective candidate or a competitive counteroffer to an existing faculty member whom the academic unit needs to accomplish its goals in the College of Education Strategic Plan 2015-2020.
