Praxis Core

The Praxis Core measures basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics and include multiple-choice questions and an essay question on the Writing test. The tests are designed to evaluate whether candidates have the academic skills needed to prepare for a career in education. North Carolina A&T State University uses Praxis Core tests to evaluate individuals for entry into Educator Preparation Programs and it is a state requirement for licensure.  This test is also a state requirement.

Praxis II and Praxis Core Test  

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) has advised all Institutions of Higher Education that student score reports not directly received from them are NOT OFFICIAL. As we strive to maintain the integrity of data collected, analyzed, and reported, the College of Education Dean's Office will only accept OFFICIAL score reports. Candidates must list our university as a score recipient. If students do not list our university as a score recipient using our university code of 5003, they will be responsible for contacting ETS and requesting that ETS send us an official copy of their scores. This means students will have to order and pay a $50 fee to ETS. Please visit this link for additional information: https://www.ets.org/praxis/scores/get

Praxis II

Praxis II® Subject Assessments measure knowledge of specific subjects that K–12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. Individuals entering the teaching profession take the Praxis II tests as part of the teacher licensing and certification process required by the state of North Carolina.

Effective October 1, 2014, all in-state and out-of-state Elementary Education (K–6) and Exceptional Children: General Curriculum (K–12) initial licensure applicants are required to pass the following tests:
  • Foundations of Reading
  • General Curriculum (Mathematics & Multi-subjects) 

About the Foundations of Reading Test 

The Foundations of Reading test for North Carolina assesses proficiency in and depth of understanding of the subjects of reading and writing development. The test reflects scientifically based reading research and is aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

About the General Curriculum Test

The General Curriculum test for North Carolina assesses proficiency in and depth of understanding of each of the elementary subject matters required for an elementary teaching license in North Carolina. It is a test of general content knowledge including language arts, history and social science, science and technology/engineering, and mathematics.

Pearson (Elementary and Special Education)

The College of Education Dean's Office will only accept OFFICIAL Pearson score reports. Elementary and Special Education candidates must list our university as a score recipient. If students do not list our university as a score recipient, they will be responsible for contacting Pearson and requesting they send us an official copy of their scores. This means students will have to order and pay a $40 fee to Pearson. Please visit this link for additional information:
