Department Mission

The primary goals of the History Department are to foster students' aspirations, to cultivate intellectual curiosity, and to prepare graduates for successful careers. Departmental courses are designed to develop skills in written and oral communication, ethical reasoning, critical thinking, intercultural and global awareness, and scholarly research. The department’s rigorous curriculum promotes the development of reason, an understanding of the past, and reflective inquiry to inspire informed, engaged citizens.

What We Offer

We offer undergraduate degrees in History and History Education as well as minors in History, Military Leadership, and African American/African History.  Our graduate program offers a degree in History Education (Master of Arts in Teaching).  In addition to history courses, we offer courses in geography.

Due to weather conditions, the North Carolina A&T State University and University of North Carolina at Greensboro joint commemoration celebration events to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. have been canceled.

For the sixth consecutive year, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro will host a joint celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with a theme of “Moving America Forward in the Age of Trump.”

N.C. A&T to Commemorate 58th Sit-In; Award-Winning Journalist April Ryan to Keynote

In continued honor of the legacy of Jibreel Khazan (Ezell Blair Jr.), Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil and David Richmond, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will hold the 58th Annual February One Sit-In Commemorative program “Conscious for the Culture.”
