Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design is popular among students seeking professional careers dedicated to improving the natural environment for long-term, sustainable productivity.

The department offers three bachelor of science (B.S.) degrees encompassing five majors:

B.S. Agricultural and Environmental Systems, Concentration in Sustainable Land Management
• B.S. Agricultural and Environmental Systems, Concentration in Urban and Community Horticulture
• B.S. Agricultural and Environmental Systems, Concentration in Environmental Studies
• B.S. Biological Engineering
• B.S. Landscape Architecture

Our programs appeal to people with diverse interests; from the inquisitive scientist to the creative artist. Our three Agriculture and Environmental Systems majors: Environmental Studies, Sustainable Land Management, and Urban and Community Horticulture, explore issues related to food production and air, water and soil quality. Biological engineering majors learn to apply physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics to natural products and systems, to make a cleaner, more productive and sustainable world. Landscape architecture majors learn to design and plan for ecologically sound and aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces. Our forward-looking master’s in Agricultural and Environmental Systems  equips graduates with the knowledge and resources they need to effectively tackle current and future environmental issues relevant to sustainable agricultural production, and natural resources conservation.

As a student in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design, you will have access to innovative and creative educational programs, groundbreaking research, hands-on learning opportunities, and stimulating activities. You will grow and learn, both in the classroom and out, through a multitude of venues including University Farm, industrial plants, student clubs, summer internships, our unique, outdoor natuculture laboratory, and design-tourism trips. When you leave, you will have the confidence, skills and knowledge necessary to become a leader and problem solver in your field. Our students are readily recruited by private firms, government agencies, Cooperative Extension and graduate schools.

N.C. A&T star sprinter Christopher Belcher signs professional contract with Nike

Christopher Belcher came out in a N.C. A&T track and field uniform for his semifinal 100-meter dash race at the 2017 USATF Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on Friday. When he came out for the final, the A&T was gone, and he was uniformed completely in Nike.

NASBA Awards N.C. A&T Professor Research Grant

Dr. Brandis Philips, assistant professor of accounting at N.C. A&T State University has been awarded a research grant by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).

Energy Center at N.C. A&T to Offer K-12 Teachers Workshops

The Center for Energy Research and Technology (CERT) at N.C. A&T State University will begin its annual energy education series workshop for K-12 teachers. CERT will offer three, 2-day workshops throughout the summer to meet varied summer schedules.
