Application Process

  1. During the month of March, an application for the Child Development Laboratory (CDL) will be mailed or may be picked up from the Child Development Laboratory at N.C. A&T to all potential families who are on our waiting list. Applications will not be taken over the phone. The deadline date varies slightly each year, but always falls within the first week of April.
  2. A completed application along with a copy of the BIRTH CERTIFICATE should be submitted only after determining that the policies and programs offered will meet the needs of both the families and the child of or children. The application must be completed in its entirety in order to be considered. Any omitted questions or failure to attach a birth certificate will result in the application not being considered.
  3. Admission and enrollment are for one school year only. Everyone must reapply annually.  Each school year begins in August or September and ends in June.

Failure to submit the entire packet of completed, signed forms by the due date will be interpreted as a decline of the child’s space. The child’s acceptance will be forfeited, the application will be discarded, and the space will be given to a child on the waiting list. Late applications will not be considered. The deadline date varies slightly each year, but always falls within the first week of April.

Selection Process

The selection of up to thirty-four (34) children, including those children who are returning, is made by the CDL administration and faculty liaison using a “lottery system.” In the “lottery system,” all children’s names, genders, and affiliations (U-university/C-community) are taken into account to determine which children will have the opportunity to attend the Child Development Laboratory.

Enrollment and Orientation

After a child is accepted into the program, an initial enrollment orientation is required before he or she attends on a regular basis. At this orientation, families will have the opportunity to visit the child’s classroom, tour the CDL, meet the child’s teacher and talk with the administrative staff. Enrollment documents will be provided and reviewed. Any questions may be addressed at this time.

Families are allowed a “get acquainted” stay for short periods of time prior to the enrollment date to help familiarize the child to the new environment.
