Goals and Objectives of the Business Education Program
Goals
The goal of the Business Education program is to provide professionally educated personnel for educational institutions and businesses in our information society. In accordance with the mission of the University and with the broad tradition of education, the program seeks to produce individuals with (a) analytical and decision-making skills, (b) ability to develop strategies for action in educational institutions and business organizations, (c) competence in communication skills, (d) ability to assess and improve their personal development, (e) a global perspective to make them better appreciate diversity, and (f) motivation to continue lifelong intellectual growth.
Objectives
The five objectives of the Business Education program are to provide:
1. Students with a liberal education and an understanding of a common
body of business knowledge.
2. Business-oriented curricula to majors preparing for business teaching
careers in public and private schools and for business careers
as administrative systems managers, office systems specialists,
information managers, and entrepreneurs.
3. Opportunities for students to develop an appreciation for the lifelong
learning process needed to meet immediate as well as future
demands.
4. State-of-the-art equipment, courseware, and software to ensure that
students develop current skills and knowledge.
5. Opportunities for students to apply their skills and knowledge through
cooperative training in businesses and not-for-profit
organizations.
Together with the above objectives that focus directly on preparing quality graduates, the Department also has several other objectives related to maintaining quality programs.
6. The Department will recruit talented students who are interested in
business teaching and administrative systems careers by
creating awareness of job outlook statistics and the social,
economic, and personal benefits of such careers.
7. The faculty will demonstrate scholarly productivity and professional
growth.
8. The faculty will contribute to University governance by participating
in meetings and serving on Department, School, and University
committees.
9. The faculty will provide public service.
10. The Department will conduct publicity campaigns to increase its
visibility.
11. The Department will continue to review its purpose, objectives, and
measures of effectiveness.
12. The Department will maintain an organizational structure and climate
that is conducive to the achievement of its educational,
scholarly, and service objectives.
