Elvin Bethea Inducted Into 2003 NFL Hall of Fame

On Sunday, August 3, 2003, North Carolina A&T alumnus Elvin Bethea was inducted into the 2003 NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The Trenton, New Jersey native was inducted into A&T’s Hall of Fame in 1980. Read more about Mr. Bethea below.

  • First North Carolina A&T State University player to be named to Pro Football Hall of Fame


  • Played guard and tackle, defensive end and linebacker


  • At A&T selected as Football All-America twice and track and Field All-America


  • Drafted by the NFL Houston Oilers in 1968 in the third round


  • Played defensive end for the Oilers for 16 seasons


  • Made Pro Bowl eight times and led the team in sacks six times, finishing his career with 105 sacks


  • Will be presented at the enshrinement ceremony by his football coach, Hornsby Howell


  • Currently serving as director of government affairs at Anheuser-Busch’s Houston office
