North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has been selected as The Tom Joyner Foundation October 2006 school of the month. The focus of the Tom Joyner Foundation (TJF) and N.C. A&T partnership is scholarship aid for deserving students. The Tom Joyner Foundation (TJF) was established in 1998 to raise money for students who attend historically black colleges and universities. To date, the foundation has been successful in raising more than $35 million through major corporation and alumni donations. The media personality is most noted for his work in radio as the host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, which airs locally on WQMG - 97.1 in the Triad. Joyner, an HBCU graduate, has been at the forefront of promoting HBCUs through his radio program. Each month, the Joyner team produces live Sky Shows which include a concert and draws thousands of participants. During the sky shows, major donations are broadcast on air. As the October school of the month, the TJF will have three Sky Shows - Oct. 13, Municipal Auditorium Bart Lester, Shreveport, La.; Oct. 20, Atlanta Civic Center, Atlanta, Ga. and Oct. 27, Hard Rock Live, Miami, Fla. A&T is currently in a capital campaign and has raised $80.8 million of its $100 million goal.
