New Freshman Scholarships
Freshman University Scholarships are primarily based on academic achievement, standardized test scores, and community involvement. We also offer a number of other competitive scholarships, which are awarded on the basis of overall strength of your scholarship application. On line applications are available and linked at a appropriate time before each deadline.
National Alumni Association Scholarship
The Alumni Scholarship recognizes exceptional academic talent and ability. This scholarship represents the Alumni Association’s pledge to assist the University in attracting quality students. Minimum qualifications include having a 3.0 or higher high school GPA and a 1000 or higher SAT (verbal and math only) or 22 ACT score. This award covers full tuition, fees, room, board and books for four years as long as the students meet the yearly requirements. It must be postmarked on or before December 31st.
Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholarship
This Dowdy scholarship covers full tuition, fees, room and board to include any federal or state grants. Students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Minimum qualifications include having 3.75 or higher high school GPA and a 1200 SAT (verbal and math only) or 26 ACT score and a 500 words or less application essay. The application deadline is January 15th.
Gates Millennium Scholars Program
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program selects 1,000 talented students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential. Minimum eligibility requires a 3.30 GPA; to be of African American, American Indian-Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American decent; U.S. Citizenship, U.S Permanent Resident/Foreign National; and to be a high school senior or received your GED.
