Board of Governors' Doctoral Study Assignment Program

The Board of Governors' Doctoral Study Assignment Program (DSAP) was established in 1978 and has played an important role in strengthening faculties at the comprehensive and baccalaureate institutions of the University of North Carolina. This program enables faculty members who receive awards to spend up to one year of full-time study toward the doctoral degree at an accredited institution of their choice while continuing to receive full pay and other benefits as faculty members. Each institution can recommend only one faculty member for participation in the program. Nominees must be scheduled to complete their doctoral degrees within one year of accepting an award. Eligible faculty members for the program include recipients of the doctoral study award who have not yet received a doctorate or other full-time faculty members who have never received a DSAP Award and whose salaries are paid entirely from budgeted teaching positions. For all nominees, the academic disciplines in which they are currently teaching and expect to receive the doctorate should be important areas for the institution. Interested faculty members should discuss this educational opportunity with their school deans, who will obtain necessary application forms from the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
